Blizzard on banning rampage
Arena May 13th, 2008There is an uproar about people getting banned for 72h with all their arena points and all S3 gear being removed. All I can tell is:
FINALLY!
However, there are stories flowing around forums with people claiming they got banned when they did not win trade, I was sceptic about that at first, but in one long topic on Arena Junkies, one guy pasted an email from Blizzard:
Hello, XXXXXX.
I wanted to give a quick followup on the situation. It seems as if the actions made on your account were in error. We do apologize for this situation, as our intention is to clean up the rampant win trading going on, we did encounter a few mistakes along the way. Unfortunately your team was filtered through association, and was tracked and actioned due to an error in judgement. I apologize for that.
The items removed from your character have been restored and should be in your mailbox. Your points should also be returned as well.
Reply to this email if you have any other questions. I realize you will probably question the status of your friends, but I will take care of them.

At last indeed !
I’ve been hard-earning my few points week after week. I was getting frustrated to see some people buy their way to full veng like they did.
good riddance

I’d rather them clear out the rampant scrubs with S3 and make a few mistakes than do nothing.
But it sucks to be that dwarf. >.<

Does this mean arena will be alot fairer now? I mean - for all ratings from 1600-2300 say?
I think gear can be a major factor in who wins or loses so that’s a good move by Blizzard. I’m hoping arena gets easier now because my Priest and I have the skill and strategy but can’t advance because of the limitation of gear and the number of S3 our opponents have…

Its not like they will remove everyones gear, so majority of people will have full s3 (for the love of god its end of s3, its about time everyone has it)
So you will still face s3 people, after 2.4.2 maybe less on lower ratings since boosting and team selling will be much harder

Less? Imagine number of personal boosts to 1700! Honest players under 1700 will be in hell with all those full S3 boosting 24/7.
The best now would be REMOVAL of personal rating. Because then personal boosting would be quite useless, so only problem left would be win-trading.
Who give a F that everyone can get “everything” like in S1? The benefit being on top is getting this gear MUCH faster - like 3 (!) times faster. Is not that rewarding enough? Why keep system that promote personal boosting? For gold sellers? To make people do daily quests?

Oh and it is Blizzard fault that seasons are too long. It should be balanced that people at 1800+ or 2000+ could get everything in one season (and maybe save few points) while people at ~1500 should be able to get only 1/2-1/3 of that.
While now seasons are so long that even guy with 300 points per week can probably buy everything and even save for next season, while top players buy everything very fast then save 5k points and are boring - so they go boost.

This is just beutiful.

Seriously who needs a boost to 1700…

I just hope they will start banning eu wintraders and pointsellers too soon!!
May 14th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
As far as wintrading is banable offence, point selling isnt. This is why new rules were introduced in 2.4.2, to make point selling much harder but its still not impossible.

@SandMan
1500 is average rating. If you would have two teams in whole battlegroup and one would be at 1700, second would NEED to be at 1300.
So now you have loads of people that play arena for some gear and don’t give a F about e-sport or other bullshit.
1) At S1/S2 they could grab their 300 points per week and maybe buy something (mostly weapons) after weeks/months of saving.
2) At S3 it was almost the same besides weapons and shoulders. But well boosting even to 1850 require some skill (if you are not win trading) so most people did not bought this, plus free epics from S1 came so…
3) Now at S4 you are limited to gloves and throwing/wand (plus caster OH). Most important is thing that some of honor items are now locked by personal rating too. So now by buying easy boost to 1700 you unlock everything that was possible to buy at S3.
So now average people under 1700 will either:
a) buy a boost
b) get few items and quit - less people in system - everyone goes down with rating

Ok, still team with one full s3 person and someone who cant reach 1700 by him self will be still shitty. Any decent team will easly defeat them and after they get over 1700, there will bo no more boosters, just legit players.
On the other hand, people will boot personal to 1700 than have someone boost team to 1850 so they still can take the points.

Pretty sure I could carry someone terribad to 1700 in 2s personally, as long as I managed to stop them from keyboard turning (maybe not even bother with that if they were a warlock).
