DonLolo z Wladem reached 3k 2v2 rating
Arena April 29th, 2008This news floated around yesterday, but today MMO-Champion wrote about it, so I kinda feel obligated to write some words about it, as probably soon the whole WoW-scene will be talking about this.
A well known for win-trading 2v2 team DonLolo z Wladem has finally reached 3000 rating, win-trading pushed to perfection. Not a big surprise for me, since they are on my realm.
A quote from PvP forums that’s worth to bring to the light:
It’s been linked in these forums, the battlegroup forums, and the realm forums, in addition to the team being reported for 1 month plus. If blizz banned this 3k team, they’d have to do something about the other teams which don’t cheat to such an extreme, which lets face it, would require a fair bit of work.
Season 3 is coming to an end as well, and blizz are pinning hopes the new system in season 4 will stop this. Personally I think it’s going to be as effective as the afk debuff, and that the cheaters / exploiters will still get the stuff, while the people who don’t, are effectively punished.
Tl:dr
lol esport
Sad but true, the system is exploitable for various reason, the main one is that there are simply not enough teams playing at once (at least at 5am in the morning), which makes it easy to set a win-trade. To fix that, Blizzard would have to somehow change the whole queue system, or introduce some tracking system that allows to filter out the win-traders and notify GMs about them for futher investigations. This needs to be fixed, but I don’t really have any idea how, and I guess neither does Blizzard.

Simple solution : a team cannot play more than 3 games against anotehr team in a single week. (A la best of 3) If 1 team gets a 2-0 lead the serie ends. No otehr way around it.
Yeah it would suck when very few teams are queued around 5 am, but this would sove 2 issue :
1- Wintrading will be mitigated by that change (they would need to have many teams to fill their rotation)
2- Prevent unncessary farming of counter combo. Either you provided the pain were on the receiving end of that one. Some combo are just nearly impossible for some setup. Beign matched to teh same counter setup 8 or 9 games out of 10 can really screw your rating.

That’s kinda harsh, how about if you get a straight 3 wins against one team, you can fight with them again this week, so you either go:
Win -> Win -> Win -> Can’t be queued against that team again
OR:
Win -> Win -> Loose -> Win -> Win -> Loose -> Win -> Win -> Loose… in which case you can play as many games as you want, but the ratio isn’t good enough to drain points.
This is not a perfect solution (I guess a perfect solution doesn’t exist), but it would hinder win-trading a lot and made obvious stuff like this impossible to get away with.

I like that , best out of 3.
You will not be queued against same team more than 3 times in given week. That on the other hand may be problem when there is small number of teams in battlegroup.

3 straight win can still be very damaging. But it could still be viable. I’d leave it a best out of 3 but on a basis of per 10 games played.
If you decide to play more than 10 games in a week, you expose yourself to be queue 3 more times against that same team which you already played against. And that, for every 10 games chunk you decide to play.

I’m not really worried about loosing to same team few times in a row, this can easly be avoided by waiting few minutes with the queue, and you can always meet same setup but a different team, you just have to deal with it, making a workaround just for that is not needed. Fixing win trading is another story, I’m wondering, how many of actual 2200+ teams makes it legit to make Blizzard think it’s a good rating to set the shoulders requirement at.

Is Win Trading where two friends setup two computer’s and Q at the same time? Then what loses purposely to give the other points? Lol never heard the term that’s all…

Not necessarily two pcs, but basically yes, people arrange it so their characters only fight against the people they want - either accounts they’re controlling, or some friends etc. When they see they’ve both got the queue at the same time, they enter. It’s usually the right people, so one team lets the other win. Rinse, repeat.

Yeah that’s pretty lame. God Arena can be frustrating but it’s the only thing that is keeping me on WoW…

This is one of the main problems i have with these MMO’s.
I come from Ultima Online, where there was a great Faction system. In this system you had to defend a base for 24 hours to capture a town. About 95 percent of the people were able to play between the regular hours of say from 6/7 AM to 1/2 AM. During those hours it was always busy and there were always fights. It was difficult but doable to defend your base during those hours as every faction had the numbers online to mount a defence.
However, a very small percentage of the players where never seen during those Prime Time hours. They waited… And waited… And waited some more till most if not all, of the defenders went to bed. Only a handfull usually managed to stay up the full 24 hours. And then they attacked, easily overtaking the bases and destroying the work of 95 percent of the participants at a time those people were not able to defend.
I myselve opted for years to cahnge the capture time of these bases to only include prime time and stop the ability to capture them during off peek hours.
Since WoW is divided in world zones, i think the best solution would be to make arena games possible during limited hours only. This can be still be a lot, say from 7 am to 2 AM. As tehre will be many more teams playing during these hours the wintrading should like almost be impossible.
And it would stop a lot of frustration people have with the arena system.

There is a pretty simple solution, making a cooldown on games, making sure it’s impossible to play same opponents in a row (eg. 5 minute matching cooldown) and another limitation of 3 or 5 games per hour.
But I’m sure _they_ will come up with something better, liek the afk systomz kek.

Well, regardless of whatever system they come up with I hope these stupid tards that actually decided to go up to 3k thinking they wouldn’t get put in the spotlight, GET BANNED. I really hate losers that abuse/hack/cheat to get rating.
