Importance of Hotkeys
Uncategorized April 1st, 2008Why do we need hotkeys? Only if you want to pwn with your warrior.
For instance, if you’re in Berserker Stance and your target dodges, you would have to move your cursor to the Battle Stance icon, click on it, move your cursor to the Overpower icon, click on it, move your cursor to the Berserker Stance icon, click on it, and then finally move your cursor to Mortal Strike or Berserker Rage. But wait, you’ve accidently clicked on the Defense Stance icon because it’s so tiny so you’ve just wasted a second and the Overpower Icon stops lighting up. You were also too lazy to organized your skills for clicking efficiency, so you have more travel time in between skills.
Or
You can just enter shift + F, then F, and then T. Huh?
Having hotkeys is one thing, but having convenient hotkeys is another. For example, since I’m sitting in Berserker Stance, but I like to make my transition really easy and quick to Overpower if my target decides to dodge my attacks. My Battle stance hotkey is “Shift + F” and my Overpower is just “F.” I can easily hold Shift and spam F, then let go to Shift and continue spamming F, since my finger is already there, until Overpower hits. I then hit “T” to go back to Berserker Stance.
I would hotkey Revenge to “F”, simply cause it’s on the same cool down and it’s easier to remember since they serve the same function. As for shouts, since you can only have 1 of your own shouts, I’d hotkey “B” for Battle Shout and “Shift + B” for Commanding Shout. Pummel and Shield Bash can be have the same hotkey, etc.
You want to hotkeys skills that you use often to be as close as possible to your hand. For example, you’d want R to be hamstring and C to be Mortal Strike, something close, and you’ll want Intimidating Shout or Challenging Shout to be something like shift + 4 or H, something further or harder to press.

F is Charge/Intercept for me
H is Intimidating Shout, Shift+H is Piercing Howl
V is Hamstring
R is autorun
my stances are G1-G3 (Logitech G11/G15)

E = MS
Q = WW
(A and D are strafe, since keyboard turning is useless)
Shift Q = SS+WW (mmmm lots of numbers)
Bang on F till I switch stance and overpower then shift F to get back to zerk
And then I bind all kinds of good stuff to my “mouse forward” button (aka button 5 aka the one that you use to go forward when browsing web pages) My right thumb is always there and my left thumb and pinkie are almost always on shift and alt, so it’s pretty fast for me.
button5 hamstring
alt+button5 charge/intercept macro
shift+button5 battle stance
shift+alt+button5 zrker stance
“back mouse button” is for vent.
I don’t find myself using auto run in arenas much, so auto run hangs out on the PgDwn key for me.
I also don’t camera zoom in arenas so that moved to ctrl-mouse wheel up/dwn and i use regular mouse wheel up, mouse wheel down, alt+wheel up, alt+wheel down, and mouse wheel click for turtle macros (like equip shield and intervene and spell reflect and stuff)
PRO setup — amirite?

APRIL FOOLS I CLICK EVERYTHING
April 1st, 2008 at 10:09 pm
My hotkeys are quite simple and I find my hand not moving all over the keyboard.
Stances:
Battle = F1
Berserker = F2
Defensive = F3
Abilities:
1 = Intercept/charge
2 = MS
3 = Hamstring
4 = Execute
Middle Mouse = WW/Overpower (depending on stance of course)
F = Blood Rage
G = Battle Shout
R = Berserker Rage
That’s pretty much everything I need and I just manually click my trinkets when I need them.

To be honest the only thing that’s important is that you’re not mouseclicking anything. Clicking shift-F and alt-3 are both as fast as long as you memorize your binds and they come naturally straight from your spine.
Losing all the mouseclicking lets you focus mainly in what’s going on around you - instead of looking for the right buttons to press.
Keeping your back away from enemies and being aware of ranged casts like cyclone can easily be missed if your eyes are in the cursor all the time.

I use
SHIFT+mousewheel up = battlestance
SHIFT+mousewheel down = zerkerstance
SHIFT+click mousewheel = defensive
I’ve tried several button combinations for switching stances, but once you get used to it (only takes couple hours) its the best method in my opinion.

F - Battle Stance
T - Defense Stance
G - Berzerker Stance
F1 - F12 All the skills that are usable in all stances
1 - 0 All the skills usable in that stance.
1 - Macro that charges/intercepts and then hamstrings when charge/intercept is on cooldown.
I’m never all around the keyboard…ever.
Willma = Master of the stance dance.

i lol’d when i saw Arnoks keymapping. You’re crazy man
I’ve mapped my E&R keys to do almost everything.
If im in Berserker stance R-> Battlestance.
In Battle Stance R-> charge.
In Battle Stance E-> Berserker Stance.
In Berserker Stance E-> Hamstring.
SO by pressing R R E E i’ve successfully charge’d, zerk’d, hamstring’d in matters of a second and still havin mah sweet intercept ready to use (on Q btw.)
Rest is;
1 - WW
2 - MS
3 - Pummel
4 - Execute
5 - Bloodrage.
Rest is Shift+numbers for shouts etc.

Yeah I do the same, all my keybinds are next to WASD for easy access, it’s proven invaluable, greatly awesome.

random question: if hamstring doesn’t get applied because there is a better slowing effect already on, is there still a chance for imp. hamstring to proc?
April 10th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Yes

Machinery, I’d suggest you test it out for yourself because I haven’t seen or thought about this yet. Get a rogue or hunter friend and have them keep crippling poison or wing clip up while you’re spamming hamstring. However, it’s not good practice to apply hamstring when they have a better slowing effect on them.

ya I will try it, I was basically wondering if I should bother spec’ing into it in 3v3 w/ a rogue. Still of course good for drive by hamstrings…I guess the only other thing those points could go into is 2-h spec anyways
