Arena January 30th, 20082v2 makes me want to slap someone in the face… Yesterday me and my pally wanted to get 2k rating to get him his S3 shoulders and so I can get mine next week, we started at ~1920 rating, finished playing 5v5 at around 8pm with 5 hours till the end of the week and full of optimism we queued for our first 2v2 that day. We farmed one team to 1960 and then it started.
Literally, we met 7 teams in a row that were:
hunter/druid
warlock/druid (like 3 different teams with this setup)
warlock/priest
At 11pm we stopped meeting those (pretty much becase they got boosted to 2k by us and happily stopped playing), we still managed to stay at around 1950 despite how overpowered they are against our setup (killing not so careful druid with JoJ and lucky mace stuns and what not).
After a lot of drama about 15 minutes after midnight we were at 1976, so close! Basically the only teams that were playing at that time were mage/rogue, lock/lock (one demo, one not) and war/druid, after loosing 5 games straight to those (despite the fact we beat them, exactly same teams, before) and dropping down to 1909 we were just to pissed to talk to each other not to mention playing and went off.
P.S.: any comments saying “get a druid” will be deleted, tell me something I don’t know.

I know the feeling, lost 100 points yesterday to warlock/druid, warlock/priest teams.

Glad it’s not just my 2vs2 team that gets so wound up after a losing run. I also run with a Pally and hate all the same combos.
I really can’t see Druids being allowed to continue to dominate Arena for too long - Blizzard’s “class balancing” zealots will half-think something through, then half-implement it and deploy it without testing it properly. Of course, that’s not helping you get your S3 shoulders…

I fully know the feeling man. Was on my mage doing 2s (mage rogue), we played when we were dead tired and tanking from ~1790 to 1623. Worst arena night ever.

Swings and roundabouts!
Terhix, don’t forget that
- some days you get a ‘fair’ matchups - some you can beat, some you can’t, and overall you might make a bit of rating, or at least break even, but hopefully being a good player means you make progress on these ‘neutral days’.
- some days you get team after team that fucks you over on the basis of Rock-Paper-Scissors.
- some days you get team after team that you fuck over, on the basis of Rock-Paper-Scissors.
I understand your pain.. it’s not even pain, it’s agony
It’s not like we lose games to certain setups because they’re better than us, or because they have too much dps for one healer to keep up (etc), we lose because they crowd control us permanently. There is nothing more frustrating than losing an arena game because you couldn’t actually play in it, you were forced to watch while being sheeped/cycloned/rooted.
My experience comes more from 3v3, but it can be applied to your 2v2 I think, in general..
I was in a very similar situation a while ago. I had my worst day of arena ever, losing 15 games and winning 2, across two teams. I lost about 270 rating over my 2v2 and 3v3, in one go.
Sometimes I can’t just sit back and enjoy the game when I’m just being CCed. Not only is it boring, not only is it not fair, it’s also plain humiliating. It feels shameful that this character, one I put so much time into, can be rendered completely useless by so much as a well timed Frost Nova, Sheep or Root. I feel guilty, watching my team mates get cut up by rogues while I stand unable to do anything.
I’ve been known to lose my temper when it happens again and again, I have some proper NERDRAGEs sometimes, my mates recorded it once and I must admit I nearly cried laughing when I heard it back. I even broke my favourite mouse two weeks ago =(
I have some tips for dealing with those bad days, or runs.
- Take regular breaks, get up and get a drink, make a snack.. anything, just get away from your PC screen
- If you’re on a losing streak, be it because you’re making mistakes, you just keep getting shite setups, sheer bad luck.. Stop. Just trying to play through a losing streak is just masochistic.
You just have to plod through and not get depressed (especially not fall out with your team mates - afterall, they’re the ONE person you know who definately just went through EXACTLY what you did.. everyone else is only speaking from similar experiences, not the actual same experiences), and wait for those days where you get a bit of luck and face more setups you can overcome.
If you get onto a streak, it’s easier to maintain that, because your morale goes up, you play better, and you might start beating those setups you wouldn’t otherwise beat.
I lost 70 rating one day, went down to 1780 (this is in 3v3), we then stayed around that mark for two days.. until on the saturday we had ‘one of those days’ where we were playing great and we got some really good luck with matchups - +226 rating.. and suddenly we’re at 2k, and I tell you it felt easy. It felt as if the 1800s and 1900s were full of morons, compared to the 1700s where I got stuck for weeks and weeks..
Good luck! You still got a week to break 2k and get your shoulders together
I get mine in a week, I bought my weapon the same as you last week, so current points were zero, until the reset last night. Fortunately, my 3v3 priest has gone to france for a full week, so I get a week off and don’t have to worry about maintaining the rating for another week..
Your numbers will come in =)
They have to, the amount we play this game.. hehe

It’s not depression, it’s something more like Rurik (MMOments) mode.

Sigh, druids…
they were supposed to implement diminishing returns, yet that wares off after about 30 seconds. So a druid will just either constanlty CC me, or CC my pali. Its neion impossible to beat that kind of a setup..
Im wondering if blizzard will introduce anything to combat the druid in the arena?

For me, just removing freaking water from 2v2 would be a big step forward. Also, it makes me wonder why shadowmeld drinking isn’t considered an exploit and patched to be impossible to be done yet.
January 30th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Yeah, im a strong pve player, who has began to move back into PvP as i did at 60. But it appears that it is only possible to win the arena should you have some unbeatable setup, rather than raw skill.
My 5v5 team has began to just use raw skill and a sound setup, but for 2v2 it just appears to be impossible.
January 30th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
I feel you man, i (warrior) also roll with a pally and indeed the vast majority of teams we face is whatever dps+druid is hard to kill… spam roots/cyclone/instant heals(no pummeling them dudes)/shapeshift to break slowing effects/stealth…n when you get close to em they pop into bear n can take massive melee beating + heal + charge your healer + stun(diminishing returns wore off after a minute or so and i took full cyclone root times again…)
In short they either need a good slap from the nerf stick or ppl that dont roll with em should get double the honor for having to deal with that kind off nonsense.

You shouldn’t be able to drink or eat while stealthed, it makes no sense that you’re hiding in the shadows, chomping down some bread rolls and swigging a canteen.
This goes for rogues, and doubles up for druids in arena. Drinking is bad enough, shadowmeld drinking is worse. I lose a lot of games against alliance druids on the strength that they shadowmeld when drinking, meaning I have to run all the way up to them to break it, that gives me an extra 3+ ticks.. that’s what, 12-15% more mana? All that’s assuming I see where they go. If I lose sight before they meld, I’ve no chance of finding them.

No MMORPG PVP will ever be recognize in any gaming league due to poor balance and impossible to balance it.
Terhix, are you playing to get invited to a league, or just playing for fun. Progamer or Hobby?

Whiteink: Blizzard is actually heading into e-sport routine, I don’t know how they want to do that with all the shit they have got in the game atm, but that’s how things are.

Treacle, thanks for your post. You describe EXACTLY how i feel.
My teammate gave up last week. He was a priest, im a warrior. It sucks. We both know how to play our chars are doing extremely well gear wise, my priest had over 490 resillience. Im at 380 resillience, 2K self buffed AP, 30 crit. And we JUST CANT COMPETE.
Sure, some combinations are too easy, take paladin/hunter for example. That combo doenst stand a chance. But anything with a pally or a druid is a no go for us. I cant kill their healer as fast as their dps kills my healer.
It sucks.
January 31st, 2008 at 9:59 am
I mean anything with a pally and some heavy dps like warrior/warlock and a pally/druid ofc.

Why does this site got so much whine when its called “WarriorPWNS”?
Anyways, pala/war is just a plain bad combo. And unless you are pretty lucky with what combos you meet you cant really get high rated. And no, it dosnt make you a bad player. Its just cause vs some teams you cant do anything. Its simply impossible.

> Why does this site got so much whine when its called “WarriorPWNS”?
A bad day really, it’s not like I’m unhappy with my class, and yea. I do realize that war/pala is not the way to go, and I fully accept the fact that we are not going to be nr1 in battlegroup, but ffs, 2k rating is nothing unreachable for any sensible setup.
January 31st, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Well I played Warrior/Hunter 2v2 setup for some time and it is only recommended for SM lovers, was fun tho…
January 31st, 2008 at 4:54 pm
“just removing freaking water from 2v2 would be a big step forward”
rotfl
Why? Because you have a problem? There are high rated pala/warr teams in 2v2, there is sometimes druid in good 5v5 team (do you mean?). Warrior is one fucking class brilliant in every bracked, maybe you need some kind of nerf…
February 3rd, 2008 at 1:06 pm
I can feel you bros.I was teaming with a druid(yea mock me)and we were around 1700 rating and it felt almost imposible to raise it(i blame my gear). Then he told me he was about to migrate and left team and i got another druid i just got on my 3v3 team and felt good.We started playing a day that has

making it impossible to shadowmeld/eat/drink is against the NE racial. You might just as well ask for every racial to be of no use in Arenas, including your Stun resistance…
March 22nd, 2008 at 12:54 am
I’d be game for the racials being of no use in the arenas…
While we’re at it I’d like a forge, anvil and a fire in the starting room so I can make the adamantite weightstones and some food to counter the warlocks healthstones.
Good to find a site where others see the glaring CC imbalances in the arena. I can totally relate to sitting in a cyclone, walking around sheeped, or frozen in a block of ice and watching my teammates get ripped to shreds. It gets frustrating.
Give me a variation of intimidating shout that only tagets one enemy with a one minute cooldown. I don’t care if the target regenerates to full health while his feared since the only objective here is to give my team a numerical advantage in the match by completely removing an enemy player from combat.
