Using sword does not make you cool or skilled
Uncategorized January 24th, 2008Mace spec is stupid RNG. Sword spec is stupid RNG. You hit people, you get lucky proc, no skill involved AT ALL.
If you are one of those “Oh look at me babe, I’m using sword spec and I’m high rated, oh I’m so skilled!”: Choosing mace spec makes you a sensible human being that wants to max it’s effectiveness in PvP, choosing anything else makes you nothing but masochist *.
* do not apply to odd setups that might prefer sword spec over mace spec due to synergy with windfury or whatever.

hehe, word
Although it’s about the same as for Rogues I guess. Swords gives a minimal amount of better damage, so you take it if you mostly do PvE. I still I’d taken Maces though, and will fix that on my warrior in 7 levels…

both are random number generators but mace is the one with the highest chance.. therefore the better RNG. Switched from S2 sword to World Breaker and OMG did i notice a difference. I always thought mace spec blah blah but i’m amazed at just how good it is when that proc goes off. Unless it’s instagib i missed the majority of extra sword procs as numbers in the background… but mace spec i usually notice and love the ability to stop heals and even iceblock.
So while both are RNG’s theres one RNG thats more ‘reliable’. Swords only make you cool though if your someone who likes to not quite be part of the general masses but also not one of those ‘outcasts’ on the fringe of society. Mace = ‘normal society’, Swords = ‘Goths’ and axes are those freaks into S&M

This was the hardest choice for me. For weeks coming up to getting my S3 weapon I kept switching. In the end I went with the sword, after asking just about anyone who wasn’t bored of my constant ”hmn but this one..”.
I chose the sword because I’m playing with two healers in 3v3, and whenever else we fought a warrior+2healer setup, the ones that caused most trouble were the sword specced warriors.
I felt that my healers could keep themselves up, and as the only dps, it was basically down to me to kill stuff as quickly as possible, and I decided the flat bonus damage would be more beneficial for us.
I know they might have just been better players than the mace users, but that along side the feeling that my mace proc never procced when I really needed it to - I think only three times in several months did I find myself thanking the mace for it’s proc, I decided to give the sword a chance.
To be brutally honest I think they’re balanced. They’re both there as a spec at the same point in the tree - bliz intends them to be balanced. Whichever weapon I chose, it was going to be a massive upgrade from my Deep Thunder, more str, more sta, more hit, more crit, more -armour, more res, more top end dmg and more swing speed.
Reading topics about it on the warrior forums is so very pointless because eventually it comes down to your personal preference and what suits your team - sure there are definately cases where swords benefit - when playing with shamans.. but in nearly every other sense, I think they both have merits and drawbacks, and people should stop judging others on their personal choice.
Hell I’m going to get the mace, once I’ve got all my other stuff and I have points to burn, but honestly, I don’t think the difference between another swing or a stun will change matches more than one in a hundred.

Treacle: That’s why I’ve added (*) note, there are setups where sword can be better choice for various reasons.
January 24th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
to counter druids running away mace is better, much better, cose you can close the gap and refresh hamstring and MS…. and after a 3 sec stun be ready with pummel cose you know they are going to try to heal themselves (not only druids in this case :))

I’m sword -
Cause I think it’s fun. I used to be mace, and I noticed and many times enjoyed the stun, I’ve even been thinking about switching back, but swords really fit my style, kind of leery jenkins kill-them-before-they-kill-you type of thing.
Now I’m aware that maces are just as effective for this, I just love the feel of sword spec, and they’re not all that different as far as power level goes.
Not a min/maxer really, either. I may end up becoming one, but not yet. ;P

I’m thinking of getting more into 3v3, and pairing up with a shaman in addition to my resto druid partner in 2v2. We think I would benefit more staying sword because of windfury. So, take that into account. But yeah, strictly 2v2, go mace.

Word. :p

I had the S3 mace for 3 days but got so disapointed so i had a GM change it to a sword for me (it was something with the feeling), i still think mace is better for 2vs2 but the sword makes me able to very often go for the dps instead of the healer in 2vs2.
So we get shorter games and have alot more fun when i play with sword
January 25th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
I’m a sword kinda guy, but I’m also realistic. I’ll ride mace stuns to 2k + my shoulders, then I’m grabbing the sword and respeccing to have more fun.
Clutch sword spec procs just rarely happen if at all. Clutch mace spec procs happen pretty much every game.
January 25th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
I got mace because it gave us more CC, to a class that has basiclly none its pretty important.
Specially with imp hamstring AND mace spec, you will be surprised how much those procs can save your team and win you games, as much as I hate RNG, I have to say it’s superior then swords in term of pure PVP from my experience.
January 27th, 2008 at 5:24 am
I sword spec procced my way to 2k rating in 3v3 today! The final three games that tipped us over the 2000 mark all featured a ”best time for a proc in the world” sword proc at about ~35% hp which ended the life of my target a lot sooner than it would have been without those procs..
Swords definately aren’t much worse than maces, for those that insist they’re worse.. Totally viable. =)

Remember to come online relaxed and ready for some serious pwn tomorrow, so you can finally submit your note about reaching 2k rating!
P.S. Aitrus sucks canadian cocks!

Ur disclaimer basically says that you think maces are best, except for setups where swords are better right? So this entire news post is redundant. There are tons of setups where swordspec is equal to maces and many setups where it’s better then maces. This website had some interesting insights/discussions a while ago, but now it’s come down to regurtitating it all again.

Not really. I’ve seen quite a lot sword specced warriors calling for mace spec nerf because it’s oh so imba (like they just lost to mace specced warrior / druid duo or something and have to whine on forums).
I’m focused on 2v2 atm, and for me, in my setup, mace spec is superior to anything else, it doesn’t have to be for you, but that was not the point of this entry, the point of this entry were people who use swords, often in setups that would prefer mace, and have the mentality of ’sword requires more skill’, it does not.
January 28th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
I hit 1850 and got the sword, had been using Stormherald all along, been 2k in 2v2 and 5v5 with Sword, don’t miss the stuns. They never came when needed.
No RNG Stun or Sword Proc is a deal-breaker in a game you were losing, but they may seal it if you were winning anyway. You cannot play poorly and expect lucky procs to save you.
January 28th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
With respect to Vainglory’s above comment, how can you say any different with sword spec going off when you ‘really need it’. They both are based off luck. I don’t know about you, but unless the proc goes off with every swing; it’s not working for me when I need it.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:12 am
excuse my ignorance, but what the hell does RNG stand for?
and, IMO, weapon speccs should be merged, either stun, crit or extra attacks to every freakin kind of weapon, at least that way we could get rid of the daily “What weapon to take” threads in the warrior forums

I hope they buff axe spec or at fucking least put axe that does not look and have same stats (hi AP instead of STR) like cheap hunter version…
January 30th, 2008 at 5:19 am
I’m just a new 70 pvp warrior starting out in crappy blues and grinding honor for the s1 weapon. Given my lower crit and AP should I take Mace or Sword? I’m guessing Mace? Any opinions from you pros with the high ratings on what you did starting out would be great.

“the point of this entry were people who use swords, often in setups that would prefer mace, and have the mentality of ’sword requires more skill’, it does not.”
I have never heard of this ever in my LIFE… I play on Stormstrike server. I’ve never heard of “I play better therefor I pick sword”
There should be an IQ test to play a Warrior. Just some simple LOGIC will do.

RNG = Random Number Generator.
Basically, both proc randomly and unpredictably (tautology intended for impact).
January 30th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Extra attack can be a crit, simple or miss/dodged/etc.
Stun proc gives u more possibility to use slam.
Anyway it is a fckng random. Hard to choose while u don’t get Storm Herald, but for burst attack better to get sword spec.
p.s. Axe spec is shit.
January 30th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
For Tyrenk:
I would suggest mace for you, when I grinded my first honour gear mid Season2 after hitting 70, I had Thunder. The mace procs really helped me.. since I wasn’t killing anything very quickly, the stuns helped me control some of the fights.
Whatever you pick, don’t get downhearted if you seem to just get nuked in seconds. In blue gear, a warrior is seriously seriously weak and it’s very difficult to live long enough to actually learn how to play the class.. It’s worse now, seeing as in S2, people were wearing either PvE gear, random blues and greens, or a lot of S2. Now, they’re pretty much all wearing full S1, or lots of S3. It’s unlikely you’ll find another opponent with very little pvp gear, so you’re fighting an uphill battle.
Whatever you pick, good luck! =)

I agree with whoever says that warrior needs some sort of CC even if it is a random one. Stun+imp hamstring+fear help your team mates a great deal.
Swords help you to kill your opponent faster… but in the meantime one of your m8s could have died because you cannot CC enough… They both work fine. Its a matter of what role you want to have in your party/team.
January 30th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Hamstring, Piercing Howls, Disarm, a 10 sec cd interrupt, an undispellable aoe fear, attack speed slowing and hefty attack power debuffs.
Warriors can help their friends against plenty of targets.
This game needs LESS CC, not more. Us having CC will not help, we need more ways to out of other CCs.
CC already plays far too big a part in this game, giving warriors some is just a ridiculous idea.
January 31st, 2008 at 8:15 am
well I agree with treacle in a certain extent. Either you take CC off all other classes or either you give same to wars as well since they are the only ones who cannot significantly CCs. Stuns can be seen from this point of view
