Badges badges badges badges, new cape, new cape…
Gear, PvE January 11th, 2008To the tune of www.badgerbadgerbadger.com ;).
As I’m getting closer to putting my hands on dirty, ez mode, welfare, skillful and whatever you want to call it, S3 mace, considering I’m already 3/5 S3 with everything obtainable form honor already bought (ok, I still need to get the shield) it’s high time for me to complete my Ignore Armor Crab and get [Dory's Embrace].
First we tried Heroic Underbog, as a fresh Hunter from my guild and new 5v5 team (a lot of my ex-alliance guildies rerolled horde not so long ago) still needed cenarion rep for the head enchant. When a PvP warrior, a PvP S1 geared disc priest and a PvP S1 geared hunter with virtually no knowledge about instance begins to do heroics, a good laugh and repair bills are guaranteed. Coming with the idea that def gear is overrated and I don’t want to respec for one instance, we came with 0 defense and 0 protection talents tank into a heroic dungeon, backed up with a pvp priest with virtually no mp5 or whatever PvE stats you would like to see on a healer. We also got a random mage (can’t poly elementals, fun stuff) and PvP rogue (can’t sap elementals, more fun stuff). In result we had a long, dramatic but successful Underbog run and first 4 badges ever. Say whatever you say, but full 18 seconds of proper tanking (pain suppression followed by shield wall ;)) on a boss is better then nothing, actually, the only boss I died on was the first one. On the last boss we also got a pretty cool trinket for our priest, 33 or so resilience with 2% chance on struck to regenerate mana, don’t remember the name, sorry folks, PvE is a whole new world for me, something I didn’t intend to do at all since TBC.
Despite our initial success, we didn’t want to repeat that, especially since there are harder instances than underbog. Being the lucky bastard I’m, the pally who I 2v2 with is a raider, and with the access to PvE gear, he grabbed some tanking gear so he can do heroics with us. Our next goal: shattered halls (there was a daily quest and our priest needs the rep for his head enchant), so we went with pally tank, 2x PvP warriors, same PvP hunter and PvP priest. Trash packs in SH are pretty large, which was cool for us, aoe tanking prot pally and two warriors beating the hell of them with sweeping strikes + whirlwinds = win. The run was a blast and soon we all had 5 more badges + 2 more from the daily. Not to waste the pally’s respec money we also went into ramparts right after for additional 3 badges that day, if things are going to stay as they are, I’m going to have my cape in no time.
TS discussion highlight:
Pally: Hey, give me like 5 seconds to build agro before you guys charge in, it’s not like my consecration insta agroes them.
Me: Maybe because you don’t have Righteous Fury on?
Pally: Righteous Fury only redu… oh wait, you might have a point.

Tried to tank Heroic Slave Pens with my pvp spec, pvp gear and two-hand mace at the paladin healer’s suggestion. Died in about 2 seconds on the first pull (4 bogstroks). That was good for a laugh. Much simpler with real tanking gear and a prot spec. Just do arena’s monday and tuesday and then wait almost two weeks before I do them again. Saves respec money and we get to pile up the badges.

When I did this on my warrior I respecced prot for 4 days. I have a 490 def tanking set with a few kara epics and all the best available blues.
Your best badge runs are:
1. Karazahn. If you can get in a half decent pug this is 10-12 badges in a few hours. If you get going with a great group and clear the whole thing, its like 22 badges in 3 hours.
2. Slave pens. Takes less than an hour as you can skip 90% of the trash if you know where to go. 3 badges. 2 CCers is best, 1 can be a druid for hibernate.
3. Mechanar. Takes about 1.5 hours. Don’t bother with the fire elemental boss. 3 badges. 1 CCer is fine but 2 is best.
4. Ramparts. Takes about 1.5 hours. 3 badges. 2 CCers, again 1 can be a druid to hibernate dogs.
5. Underbog. Takes 1.5 hours or more. 4 badges. Only requires 1 CCer but must be a warlock or hunter (3x elemental packs at start can be painful otherwise).
6. Steamvaults. If done properly only takes about an hour. 3 badges. Best to bring a lock to banish/fear adds on first boss. Requires 2 CC to run smoothly (naga packs).
Run those heroics and its 16 badges per day. Obviously you can get 2 extras anytime the daily heroic is one of these. Try to get a kara run in for at least 10 badges. 3x 16 = 48 + 10 kara = 58 + 2 from a daily = 60. Possible in 3 days, but more likely 4-5 since you wont easily get groups everyday for all those heroics.
If you’re a noob like terhix with no tanking gear there’s not really any point in respeccing prot, just hope you have nice friends who don’t mind lugging your lazy ass through the instances. And yes if you want to be useful as a MS war in heroics pally tank is your best bet.

I hate you. As my m8s are giving up one by one and I am now a casual player like never before I don’t see me getting my nice dory cloack any time soon… at least if I do not rejoin a guild that feels pity for a lonely warrior

doing the dailyes for the past 2 months i aquired around 10k goldz so respeccing isn’t much trouble for me.
having allready 34 badges it took me one random kara run(not complete) and 3 or 4 heroics to get them 60 badges for dory’s, all in all 2 days

44 badges atm, we will stop our PvE farm today as we all need to do arenas, but should get Dory’s by tuesday :).

I just did as veritas and specced protection and tanked my way to dorys embrace but for those lazy pvpers that doesn’t have a decent tank set i would try to find a feral druid friend. Having a druid tank will make ps warrs shine (5% extra crit anyone?) and druids usually swipe away so you can happily whirlwind your way to top position of the damage meter.

Prot paladin is pretty much same story. Shattered Halls, with 2 warriors, paladin drops consecration, we drop SS+Whirlwind+Cleaves, mobs die. We don’t have 5% crit thing, but we have blessing of Might.

Yep dps wars prefer pally/druid tanks to run with for sure. Don’t know if swipe is guaranteed to hold aggro vs ss/cleave/ww, but pallies have no troubles keeping aoe threat vs dps wars.
The biggest issue with heroics as MS war is for most of them the group can only have 1 non-cc’ing DPS class. By gobbling up that spot as a warrior (instead of the tank spot) you’ll have a harder time filling out your group (your 2 dpsers have to be mage/hunter/rogue/lock, no room for dps shaman, druid, priest, or pally)
